JetVelocity our speed detection software module that calculates vehicle speed from a single ANPR camera whereas historically two cameras would have had to be deployed.
As the Jet ANPR Engine is very fast and reads each vehicle plate a number of times this allows the system to track a vehicle and work out the speed as it passes through the field of view. Each captured plate position is recorded along with the exact time of the plate capture. The first two reads are used to calculate the speed of the vehicle and a third read is used to estimate the acceleration of the vehicle. The speed can be estimated to an accuracy of a few percent.
Plates are grabbed several times. The distance from the camera and the exact time of capture are used to calculate the speed and acceleration of the vehicle.
Application Areas
There are many circumstances when ANPR is already deployed and it would be highly desirable to provide either specific vehicle speeds or average vehicle speeds.
Please note that analogue cameras do not have the same field of view as our high definition cameras and the results may not be as accurate.

Private Roads and Estates
From the schematic drawing you can see that plates are grabbed several times. The distance from the camera and the exact time of capture are used to calculate the speed and acceleration of the vehicle.
