The JetCam Hippo IP Module converts any analogue PAL camera into an IP device which can then be connected to a computer or a network hub for ANPR processing using a standard Cat5 network cable. ~ No frame grabber is required ~
Many modern buildings and construction sites now only use IP network connections for all their video requirements preferring not to use standard RJ45 analogue video cables. Using IP reduces video interference and installation costs - but no IP cameras are available that can deliver high quality Infra Red images 24 hours per day suitable for reading retro reflective plates without headlight dazzle or smear. Most IP cameras use CMOS devices and are normally used for surveillance.
The JetCam Hippo IP Module is simply connected to any standard JetCam ANPR camera to convert it into an IP device which then connects to the ANPR processor using a standard 100 Base-T network connection. The unit uses a proprietary codec and is available as a standalone unit or as an OEM PCB device for integration into camera housings. Two parallel video channels can be processed simultaneously facilitating 2 x ANPR camera connections or 1 x ANPR and 1 x colour overview camera using the one Cat5 cable.

The resolution delivered is 720 x 288 for both the colour contextual and the monochrome ANPR images. The codec employed is extremely efficient delivering very high quality compressed digital images at 25fps.
At the receiving end, JetLive recognises the video signals as a standard input device over the network and decompresses them in real time using minimal processor overhead.
Up to 20 IP module outputs may be connected to a standard 100Mb network using a network switch. Several computers can be connected to the network each processing up to four ANPR streams. This facilitates parallel monitoring of ANPR lanes or traffic overview video for security or multi hotlist purposes.
One of the real benefits of IP is that two JetCam Wasp ANPR cameras can be directly connected to a standard laptop computer via the network adapter delivering more than twice the resolution of traditional USB frame grabbers and greatly reducing the cost of a mobile ANPR system. These can be two Wasp ANPR cameras – or one Wasp with an integral colour overview camera. A serial cable can be connected to control the Wasp’s zoom, focus and image control.
This powerful feature is used by JetBase to automatically adjust the Wasp camera for optimum imaging every 30 seconds.
