Building a Jet ANPR System
A Jet ANPR system is built around a standard Windows PC running Jet Software.
Jet will run on Windows 2000,NT or XP - but it is the peripheral cards that usually force the choice of operating system.
Images are captured using standard low-cost frame grabbers - although our own range of high performance grabbers (JG Grabbers) will give a faster throughput for multiple lane systems.
Connected to these grabbers are video cameras. Specialised ANPR cameras are used to capture number plates - and more than one camera can be connected to each "Lane".
This is useful in situations where traffic lanes are wide (more than 3m) - or when vehicles can approach a barrier from more than one angle - making one camera useless in 50% of the cases.
In addition, colour overview cameras can be added to capture an image of the driver - or a general picture of the car showing the make and colour etc. This can be very useful in identifying drivers.
The system can control internal or external LED signs - these are controlled using the PC's serial port.
If the system is to control traffic lights and/or car park barriers then a digital I/O card is required.
CitySync supply these. (See Products - Digital I/O Cards).
... and that is all you need!
continued ........
Now, putting it together is slightly more difficult - and CitySync will always help you.
Points to consider when specifying the system:
Number of Traffic Lanes
Number of ANPR Cameras (may need more than 1) per lane
Number of Colour or Monochrome Overview Cameras per Lane (if at all)
Speed of traffic in each lane if free flowing
Barriers? If so - how long is acceptable to wait before barrier opens?
Distance from Camera to Vehicle. (camera types, lenses etc)
Traffic volume - peak vehicles per hour
Tailgating in traffic queues?
Is Traffic Calming possible?
Ambient conditions - light - position of the sun in summer / winter
LED signs - what messages & where?
Audible warnings required?
Traffic light control required?
Cabling - distance from PC to Cameras
How long is data retained for? (Circular buffer is used)
Multiple PCs required? (> 4 lanes) Networked?
etc.
