UK’s Leading Forecourt Retailer Installs CitySync ANPR
CitySync, the leading UK and International provider of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR / ALPR) has replaced a competitor ANPR system at one of the UK’s Flagship Petrol Retailing sites with their Jet Recognition System.
Jonathan James, Forecourt Trader of the Year in 2003 and Managing Director of James Graven Ltd decided to use ANPR technology to combat ‘drive offs’ (the crime of bilking). The value of ANPR as a crime deterrent at petrol stations is highlighted by BP2K’s Colin Todd who managed the changeover “The main reason for installing an ANPR system at the petrol station is to stop repeat offenders. ‘Drive off’ number plates are entered into a database which sounds an alarm when a car drives onto the forecourt, so the cashier knows not to turn the pump on. This database is not just only for single site Petrol Retailers but for any group or community and this is where the real value is as all of the data can be shared”.
Jonathon James owner of the BP petrol station commented “I installed a neural net based ANPR system from a Cambridge based Company after a convincing sales pitch but the system did not live up to the promises made and when I complained they said I had to change my cameras although they knew what I had before they provided their system. They insisted there was no better technology available on the market and it was my problem and not theirs”.
Colin Todd, MD of CCTV and Security specialists BP2K introduced Jonathan James to CitySync’s Jet ANPR Technology and offered a free trial so his client could see the difference before any financial outlay. Colin said “CitySync’s Technology performed extremely well compared to the other system which seemed to have a problem reading number plates at even slight angles”. “In addition I found CitySync to be very customer focused and their people knowledgeable and helpful. I would recommend that anyone thinking of buying an ANPR system should try it out first as it is very easy to be overwhelmed by a slick sales person talking technospeak”.
Natalie Mathers, CitySync’s Marketing Manager says “CitySync are 100% focused on ANPR Technologies and we have a very substantial customer base in the Law Enforcement, Security, Parking and Traffic Markets and we have an enviable reputation for after sales support. We are successful because we deliver to our customers’ expectations”.
